Latest Show Proves Huge Hit

Spire boxing academys latest show proved a huge hit. A packed Queens park sports centre crowd were treated to seventeen cracking contests, eleven involving Spire boxers.

The evening opened with the six Clubs for Young People championship contests. Defending champion Scott Jenkins (St Micheals ABC) was the pick of the bunch, flooring and stopping Nathan French (Grimsby ABC) in the final round. Scott has since retained his C.Y.P title and all at Spire wish him well for his A.B.A title challange over the coming months.

The Spire lads had a shaky start to their evening, first debutant Callum Walters then Luke Pheonix were on the wrong end of decisions to Corey Rathbone (Bolsover) and Alfie Best (Cheshunt London) respectively, third up was Spire prospect David Seston who remained unbeaten with a clear points win over Jay Garrbett (South Normanton), this got the ball rolling for the Spire boxers, Mitchell Buxton outboxed Joe Moss (Stockport) to get Spires second victory.

Sam Whitehead made it three in a row landing great body punches to outpoint the much taller Sam Smith (Ozbox). Strong Danny Hewitt made it four in a row beating Irvin Mango (Buxton) forcing a count before taking a points win. Julian Dilks made it five wins with a great performance, Dilks fast hands resulted in Salford boxer Ryan Healy's retirement after two rounds.

Spire's young boxer of the year Kristian Davey then wore down the more experienced Dale Arrowsmith (Stockport). The local match up between Kyle Howard (Spire) and Tyrone Deakin (Chesterfield ABC) proved to be the evenings most exciting contest, three rounds of non stop action saw the Spire boxer edge out his more experienced opponent landing the cleaner punches taking a close but fair decision. The winning run came to an end when Kyle Mcandrew was beaten by the experienced George Wilson (Stockport) although Lee Jevons ensured Spire finished with a win beating Steven Whittaker (Stockport).

All at the club would like to thank all supporters who spurred the lads on to another successful night. Next event will hopefully be Saturday June 6th, see you there.
